Jewelry cleaning

How do you clean jewelry so that the gemstones and diamonds sparkle again?

1. Mechanical cleaning (by hand)

Use warm water and a mild soap or detergent: Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of a mild soap or detergent. Place the jewelry in the bowl and let it soak for a few minutes. Then use a soft toothbrush to gently remove dirt and debris. Rinse the jewelry thoroughly under warm water and dry it with a soft cloth or toilet paper.

2. Mechanical cleaning (with ultrasound)

Use an ultrasonic cleaner: An ultrasonic cleaner produces sound waves that can loosen dirt and debris from jewelry. Fill the machine with water and follow the manufacturer's instructions to clean the jewelry. This is a particularly effective method for cleaning jewelry with lots of small nooks and crannies, such as engagement rings.

Important ! :

It is important to note that not all jewelry is suitable for all cleaning methods. Some materials, such as pearls, opals or turquoise, can be damaged by water or chemical cleaning products. It is therefore advisable to check the specific cleaning instructions for each piece of jewelry or ask a professional jeweler for advice before cleaning it.

3. Refresh to like new condition

Bring your jewelry to us or to a goldsmith near you. We will polish and matte your jewelry to make it as good as new. We can also sand out larger scratches or dents. Everything is cleaned in a professional manner and we also check the settings of the diamonds or gemstones. If necessary, we will re-set gemstones so that you don't lose them over the years if the settings become worn.

Therefore, it is definitely worth having your jewelry checked and refreshed by your goldsmith from time to time.

Deoxidize silver

Silver can oxidize over time and develop a dark patina. To remove this, it is best to buy a Silver Clean dip bath from a pharmacy. For example, Hagerty Silver Clean is very good. Dip the silver (not pearls, etc.) into the bath for a short time and then rinse the jewelry thoroughly under lukewarm water with soap.
